Carter Thomas | Greenville, SC Birth Photographer

When I woke up last Wednesday morning, I had a text from Kendall’s sister that she had sent at 3:20am.  Kendall had gone into labor and was at the hospital!  They knew that I was a heavy sleeper and if she was closer to giving birth, they would have to call.  But, it seems baby Carter knew that as well and waited until the afternoon to make his appearance :-)

I arrived at the hospital before lunch as Kendall was getting closer to delivering.  But Carter still had his own agenda and everyone was fine with that!  I sat with Mimi on the couch and shared her blanket in the super cold room as she waited on her first great-grandchild to be born. I talked shop with JuJu as she asked questions about her camera so she could get some photos of her first grandchild later in the day. I had lunch with grandparents, Aunt Leah and Carter’s dad, William, as Kendall tried to get some rest since she had not gotten much sleep the night before!   If one thing is evident of this sweet baby’s arrival, it’s that he and his parents are LOVED.

You would think that after doing this several times that I would be able to stop the tears from coming when the baby arrives.  But I can’t.  And to be honest, I don’t want to.  It’s such a miracle each time a baby is born and it reminds me that there is so much more in this world than me and my life and anything I may have going on.  And I get the honor and privilege to capture this brand new baby making his entrance.  It’s a new life, a new beginning, and a reminder that God is in control of everything.  So as the tears came this time, I continued to shoot, tried to hold back the sobs that wanted to escape my throat, and say thanks for auto focus on my camera because my eyes were too blurry from the tears.

Kenall and William… Carter is beautiful.  And I will never be able to thank you enough for allowing me to be a part of your family when he arrived on August 28 at 3:06pm.

Mimi’s presence in the room brought such a peace to everyone around her.

Daddy was excited about his grandson, but his first concern was for his own baby girl…

…and his other baby girl!

Every time I’ve done this, the BEST nurses and doctors have been there serving and caring for the mom.  Love them.

Watching two people welcome their first child into the world is so full of joy that it can’t help but be poured out on others.

As the time got closer, everyone but Kendall’s mom, Julie, and William left the room.

I can only imagine what it’s like to be a husband and only being able to do so much for your wife as she labors…

And then…

…he was here!

Kendall, I only hope I look this amazing after just giving birth!!

Oh my how I love baby feet…

After the hour with just mom and dad, everyone else came to meet Carter… and I love these!

And I may have been holding tears back this time around.

William’s parents holding their grandson for the first time!

Kendall’s mom, Carter’s “JuJu”… you’re making me tear up now just looking at these.

Meeting another set of grandparents…

Meeting aunts and uncles…

Love… just love.

Julie, thank you for taking this for me!  Kendall and William, he is just precious and so hard NOT to love!

I’ll end on this one… because a mom and baby resting after what they’ve both been through is enough to melt anyone’s heart.
