House Project | Painting!

Several years before we met, Ben bought a house.  A little over a year before we met, I bought my house, which is where we live now.  And I love our cute little house!!  I realized the other day just how many memories we’ve made here and got teary eyed thinking about it.  It’s where we started dating (well, not really, but I lived here when we were dating!), it’s where we almost broke up, it’s where we got back together, it’s where Ben proposed to me, it’s the first house we’ve lived in together… but it’s a small house.  It’s less than 1,000 square feet, two bedrooms (one of which is my office), 1 bathroom, a kitchen (with no dishwasher), dining room and living room.  Obviously it’s been quite sufficient for us since we’ve lived here for two and a half years together.  But, Ben’s house has quite a bit more space.  And if we want to start a family one of these days (which we do!), the house we’re currently in won’t work.  Well, it could.  But, I think my sanity would be at stake.  So, it’s time to fix up “Ben’s house” and move over there later this year!

I’m really excited and nervous and a little anxious about it all… It’s been almost 5 years since I’ve moved.  That’s the longest I’ve lived anywhere since high school!  And well, that was a while ago.  But we have a few projects that need to happen before we move and the easiest thing is the first thing on our agenda… painting!  I’ve actually been looking at paint colors for a while because we’ve known for a while that we’d eventually make this move.  But in the last several months as this has become more of a reality, I got a little more serious with my search.  Being the photographer that I am, natural light is a really big deal to me.  Or maybe it has nothing to do with photography and I just love LIGHT!  Well, Ben’s house has a good bit of it pouring in through the windows on a sunny day and I’m so excited about that!

Painting-101

So, for the kitchen, living (soon to be dining) room, and hallway, we’ve got a light taupe color.  And for at least one bedroom (maybe all of them), we have a medium to dark brown color.  My intention is to decorate the lighter colored rooms with lots of color and in the bedrooms mainly use white to offset the darker walls.  I’m not a decorator, but I’ve seen it done in a few magazines, Pinterest posts, and in the app Houzz (if you like decorating, you’d love this app!).  So, we’ll see how it goes!

So for now, I’ll leave you with the paint colors we’ve chosen… are you surprised by their names at all??

I’m so excited you guys are keeping Ben’s old house! So many awesome memories there! I can’t wait to see it with a women’s touch instead of a bachelor pad ;)

We are so excited to hear this. It’s the first we’ve actually heard that you’ve decided to move there. It sounds like a great plan! Have fun painting! We sure would help you if we were there.
    Love,
