Monday Musings | Mosquitos, Sparklers, and Looking the Same

Ben will tell you that it isn’t actually summer until this coming Saturday, June 21.  But the temperatures and the presence of mosquitos are telling me a different story.  So far this summer, I’ve had 4 mosquito bites.  And I got them Friday night in our backyard when Ben and I went outside to practice some sparkler photos (of which I am terrified, but for my job, sparklers are good for bride & groom departures!).  For me, 4 bites actually isn’t bad!  There was one summer I went outside for less than five minutes and came back in with 7 bites on my legs.  SEVEN.  It’s like they were in a line waiting to feast one after another.  Then there was our friend’s wedding we photographed on the beach two years ago (where the wind kept the bugs at bay) and then their reception was on the other side of the dunes (where there was no wind).  When we sat down to eat dinner (for maybe 15 minutes), I got 26 mosquito bites on my legs.  Ben had zero.

But I’ve discovered something amazing!!  The first weekend in June, I second shot an outdoor wedding and reception with my friend Allison and I knew that it was only a matter of time until the bugs found me.  But I found these mosquito repellant wipes (BugBand Insect Repellent) a couple of months ago and stuck several packets in a couple different camera bags.  Each packet has 2 wipes so I tried using just one for my arms and legs so that I could save the other for later (which I used sometime during the reception).  And you know what?  I came home with zero bug bites.  It was a miracle!

We shot my friend Lauren’s wedding this past Saturday and I think I managed to avoid getting any bug bites!  Lauren and I went to high school together and several of her friends from growing up were at the wedding.  We weren’t all in the same group of friends, but I knew several of them from elementary, jr. high or high school.  However, a few of them had to reintroduce themselves to me… I always feel horrible when I don’t recognize someone or remember their name.  But when I mentioned it to Ben, he laughed asking why I thought that was.  And he was laughing because he knew my answer… It’s because I’ve looked the EXACT SAME my entire life.  With the exception of my newborn to 2 year old photos (when I had no hair yet), you can pick out photos of me in a matter of seconds.

SabrinaOverTime  And that picture on the right?  That was the night I graduated from high school.  And since I definitely haven’t changed much since then, you now know why people still think I’m younger than I am (which now, I’m very grateful for!).

To round out this Monday Musing post, I get to announce the winner of Friday’s giveaway!  Random.org chose the number 4 and the 4th person to comment on the post was Liz!  Congrats, girl!  I’ll be in touch soon!
