Sunrise Engagement Sessions

My alarm went off at 5:45am today.  And I actually didn’t hit the snooze button!  It took me a minute to figure out why it was still dark outside, but I was excited to get going.  Holly had asked me about doing a sunrise engagement session because the heat wasn’t something they were really interested in and I’m not gonna lie… I might have done a happy dance when she emailed me with that question!  Because even though this August has been cooler than most, it still gets hot and humid by the afternoon.

I’m not really a morning person at all (this girl loves her sleep!), but I’ve been trying so hard this summer to get up around 7am to eat breakfast, read my Bible, and journal before I start my day.  And it’s been amazing.  It hasn’t happened like that every day, but I love having the quiet of the morning to sit and not worry about anything but what’s literally right in front of me.  And that’s part of the beauty of these sunrise engagement sessions… we’re out and about before most people and the sun still hasn’t fully crept over the horizon yet either.  There’s a stillness and a romantic quality that the morning has that no other part of the day can claim.

And the light!!!  My two favorite times of the day to shoot are just after sunrise and the hour-ish before sunset.  The sun is just around the horizon which gives everything a softness that you can’t find during other parts of the day.  So, if you’re wondering WHEN to do your engagement session… I highly recommend early morning if it’s during the summer.
