Travel Therapy

Most of you know – or have figured out – that I love to travel.  In fact, it might be my love language.  After chocolate.  But truthfully, it’s almost a therapy of sorts for me.

Vancouver – 2007

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Greenville, SC.  But after traveling so much in college, then for work, and plenty of times for vacation, it’s like it’s engrained in me and the feeling, the sense, the need to go somewhere starts welling up after a while.

Northern Ireland – 2008

And it’s not just about me… I LOVE seeing new places, getting to know a different culture, and meeting new people (even more so if they have an awesome accent).  It helps remind me that this world is so much bigger than just me, my family and my friends in my little city and definitely helps me keep perspective when things don’t go according to plan.

London – 2009

And I’m so thankful that my husband loves to travel too!  We’ve gone all over the place and we’re so looking forward to the day that we’ll be able to take our kids on trips around the globe too.

Peggy’s Cove (Halifax, NS) – 2009

Niagara Falls – 2010

Plus, there’s something about getting ready to go, getting to the airport, going through security (I’m a pro at this so it doesn’t bother me at all!), wandering around the airport (if there’s time) and then having the flight to read a book that’s good for my soul.  Some of you are looking at your computer screen right now as if I’ve just written craziness.  But after traveling so much, there’s a groove that I’ve gotten into and it really doesn’t bother me at all.  Plus, I can get distracted so easily (squirrel!) that being stuck on a plane for several hours actually forces me to do nothing other than read a book.  There’s no laundry to do, no dishes that need to be washed, and no closets or anything that need to be organized!  All that’s there for distractions are the beverage cart (I’ve fallen in love with Cran-Apple Juice thanks to Ben!) and fellow passengers that may fall asleep with their mouths open.  C’mon… all of you think that’s funny too!

Arles, France – 2009

San Francisco, CA – 2010

So, it’s come to that time again… where I need a change of scenery.  But this time, it’s more for the sake of my camera and my work than anything else.  My friend Melissa lives up in Seattle and does lots of shoots around boats and the marina and I usually end up drooling on my keyboard when I see her posts.  So, on a whim, Ben and I talked about me going up there for a few days and when I checked with her about it, she was all in!   So, this time next week, I’ll be on the west coast and probably doing something glamorous… on a boat.  ha!

Paris, France – 2011

Santa Barbara, CA – 2013

I’m SO excited to see Melissa next week.  But I’m also excited to take some time away to work on my work!  I’m so thankful for the chance to do something crazy like this.  I’m excited to check out a new city, meet Melissa’s family, and get back onto a boat (hopefully)!

I know we don’t really know each other (I used to go to Grace Downtown, now at Golden Strip), but you served with my husband Travis on AV. He and I are headed to Seattle next week too! I’d love to hear if your friend had any restaurant recommendations. There are so many good restaurants there it’s been hard to choose! Maybe we’ll see you there. :-)
