What Matters

In the midst of late night feedings, more spit up than I’ve ever seen before in my life, and our fair share of diapers, I’m finally beginning to see what matters – what REALLY matters.

Family matters.  Midnight snuggles matter.  Smiles matter.  My husband matters.  And Jesus absolutely matters.

We are no where near getting baby Catherine onto a schedule.  She will be 1 month old tomorrow (already??) and the truth is that she’s never going to be this little again.  So I’m soaking her in.  I’m reveling in this petite oiseau (small bird) that God has given us with all of her smiles, her cries, her snuggles, and yes, even her diapers (because they mean she is healthy and eating well!).

There will be time to get her onto a schedule.  Just like there will be time later to stay on top of my inbox (so thankful for understanding clients and potential brides!!), clean the kitchen, and shower.

We have loved this time with family and friends stopping by, learning what it’s like to have a baby in the house, laughing until we hurt at baby Catherine’s funny faces, projectile spit-up, and not getting a diaper on her before she decides to go again ;-)

I’ve also discovered that it’s the small things that also matter.  Things such as the surprise of a chai latte, getting to shower two days in a row, the warm weather we’re getting this week, and even not having to worry about dinner a couple of nights a week.  God has been so good to us and I’d be amiss if I didn’t thank Him daily for all He’s doing.

Our small group leaders brought us Starbucks in the hospital and Ben’s department at work sent flowers!
They were two small things that meant the world to us!

Sounds like y’all are doing well! Each phase is so short… Enjoy each one! Had to smile about showering two days in a row as being a victory! I totally understand! I thought I might never go anywhere or cook a meal again at one point. It gets better. Hang in there! As for a schedule, we didn’t really have one until four months. Don’t stress: keep enjoying the moments!
