House Project | Kitchen Ideas

We’ve painted two bedrooms and half of a bathroom at the house, which I was feeling so good about!!  Until I took a half day last week and went over to finish painting the bathroom.  I walked into the house excited to get something else marked off the list but the second I rounded the corner and faced the bathroom, I froze.  THe paint and everything was just as I left it… but I HATED the color!  It somehow had turned neon green instead of the soft sage green I’d left it as just two days before!  What in the world??

Ok, maybe I’m being a tad dramatic.  Or a lot dramatic.  But I haven’t been back over there since this episode because part of me is scared that I’m still not going to like it and I’m going to have to start over.  And as much as I dislike cleaning bathrooms, I dislike painting them even more!  There are just too many nooks and crannies and toilets and sinks and mirrors to work around so even though it seems like it will be a quick project, it’s really not.  And of course, now that we’re in the midst of busy wedding season, I’m not sure when I’ll be able to talk myself into getting back over there. *sigh*  #FirstWorldProblems and my dramatic response to them help me see how ridiculous I can be sometimes.  So, I guarantee you that when I go over the next time, it will be totally and completely fine!

But that’s enough about my bathroom painting woes… this post is about the kitchen!  The contractors haven’t started just yet but the way everything looks in my head, it’s going to be amazing!

One of the contractors we met with told me about an app called Houzz.  In a way, it’s like Pinterest, but for houses!  It can be a tad addictive, but it’s actually really helped me figure out some things like I like and don’t like and to SEE what things will go together and what won’t.  I’m not great at just picking things out that will match and have a great flow so things like this are a huge help to me.  And when I found this image below with the subway tile, I was in love!  It also helped me see what white cabinets would look like with an almost black counter top.  No, we aren’t going with granite!  And we aren’t 100% sure that the tiles will work because of the wood panelling that’s currently on the walls.  So maybe it will be a project down the road if it doesn’t work out right now.  There’s a lot of, “let’s see” things happening until they actually get started on the house.

If you click on the image below, it will take you to this photo.  And you’ll be able to click on the green tags to find out more about the countertop.

The other thing we’ve decided on is some of the lighting that we’ll have hanging over the island that we’ll build.  I did a quick Pinterest search for pendant lighting and there were a couple that Ben and I both liked.  The other one was less expensive, but it had horrible reviews.  So, obviously, we’d rather pay a little more and have our purchases last than to save some money and end up having to replace them!  I love the look of these lights… and believe it or not, they’re from Pottery Barn Kids!

So, that’s all we have for now.  Most of the house projects are still in the midst of happening or haven’t been started yet, but I thought I’d post an update since we at least have some things picked out!  I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been so excited about a kitchen before in my life!

Happy Thursday!

I painted Nora’s nursery a green like that. And I was 8 months pregnant, so repainting WAS NOT an option. I cried and cried at the color. Then I forced myself to put everything back in it and once it all came together l loved the color. Here’s to the bathroom toning itself down with some well placed towels and decorations!
