Baby Catherine Marie is 1!

Catherine-12months Some days it felt like the first 3-6 months of her life would never be over.  Learning what it was like to be a new family, walking through her slooooowly gaining weight, trying to figure out what reflux was all about, seeing more spit up than I ever thought humanly possibly and thus doing laundry more than I’ve ever done in my life… well, it all just seemed never-ending.

But here we are.  God pulled us through and we woke up this morning with a 1 year old little girl!  And when I look back on the past 12 months, I honestly don’t know where the time went or how it ended up going by so quickly when there were days it seemed to stand still.

Catherine-1st-year

Catherine has been more of a blessing than we ever could have imagined and she brings so much joy and laughter to our lives!  Even on days when she and I are frustrated with each other and our inability to communicate, her smile and laugh can turn all of that around in an instant.  So I’m hoping and praying that God continues to use that in her to draw other people toward Him!

A few things she’s up to these days:

  • She took her very first solo steps last week and completely shocked Ben and me (and maybe herself)!
  • All she wants to do is go go go!  But she doesn’t quite have the confidence so she’s most still exploring by walking around holding onto people or things.
  • She’s getting fairly good at feeding herself finger foods from her high chair tray, although when she’s done she tends to throw said food on the floor.  We’re working on the sign for “all done” as an alternative.
  • We try to speak French and Spanish to her as much as possible so the most we’ve been able to understand her to say is mama and dada.  Although she’ll point to about anything and say dada so we’re working on explaining who dada actually is.
  • She seems to love people, but is starting to get some separation anxiety.  Thankfully when that happens, she seems to settle down shortly after we leave her with someone.
  • She has 4 teeth and I suspect another one is coming but she won’t let me near her mouth to check!
  • If we stay home during the day she will take two solid naps (2+ hours) and possibly a short third one before sleeping through the night (hands to heaven, we are thankful!).
  • She still loves going to crossfit with me and watching everyone workout.  She’s also quite the cheerleader sometimes too!

I took a quick scroll through her photos from the past year and found one of my favorites from each month.  I can’t believe how much she’s grown and changed and filled our hearts and lives with her sweetness (and those cheeks!!!  ohmygoodness I love them).
